Adam Westerfeld
Adam Westerfeld started to emerge onto the local basketball scene as part of the 1988-1989 season as a freshman, the same season in which Batesville claimed the single-class sectional championship and defeated Rising Sun in the regional semifinals. The Bulldogs fell that night in the regional title game to Connersville but all the while, Westerfeld's successful career was only just beginning.
A scorer, a lights-out 3-point shooter, a clutch performer at the free throw line ... those are just some of the ways to describe Westerfeld for the rest of his high school career. Adam finished out his career with 810 total points which is 12th all-time on the career scoring list at Batesville, including scoring nights of 33 points and 30 points respectively which put him among top individual performers. He would also finish out in 12th place on two single-season record lists.
Westerfeld shot 80 percent from the charity stripe, 12th best percentage in a single season, and his 51 made three-pointers during the 1991-1992 season also ranks 12th in the record books. He had a career-high seven made trifectas that same year in a game against rival Greensburg, the second most made in a single-game in school history.
It is safe to say that Westerfeld has shot his way into the Ripley County Basketball Hall of Fame. He will go down as one of many to continue the rich tradition of Batesville basketball and yet another Bulldog to make his way into the hall.
