Ace was a 1953 graduate of Batesville High School. There he was active in every way possible. Ace was senior class president and earned 14 letters while playing football, basketball, baseball, and track. After high school he went on to play basketball and study engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He was named to the Indiana High School basketball silver anniversary team
